Demond Wilson Jr., the son of actor Wilson “Grady” Wilson, confirmed to TMZ that his father passed away Friday morning at his home in Palm Springs, California. The actor reportedly died from complications related to cancer.
Wilson Jr. did not disclose the specific type of cancer but shared a heartfelt message, saying, “I loved him. He was a great man.”
Known professionally as Demond Wilson, Grady rose to fame starring as Lamont Sanford on the classic 1970s sitcom “Sanford and Son,” which aired from 1972 to 1977. He later starred as Raymond Ellis in the short-lived series “Baby… I’m Back!” and took on a lead role in “The New Odd Couple” during the early 1980s.
After stepping away from Hollywood for nearly two decades, he returned to acting with a role in the 2023 drama “Eleanor’s Bench,” according to IMDb.
