Nigeria’s complete economic recovery, according to Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, hinges on President Bola Tinubu’s reform initiatives continuing, cautioning that reversing the current course would undo the nation’s advancements.
Wike made the comments on Saturday during a stakeholder meeting held by the Rainbow Coalition in Rivers State’s Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area.
“This country can only emerge from the economic coma it was in prior to this current administration taking over if the economic reforms started by the Tinubu government are continued,” Wike stated.
The FCT minister also took aim at opposition figures, saying the presidential candidate of the Africa Democratic Congress, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku, and his running mate, Rotimi Amaechi, had nothing to offer Nigerians. He accused career politicians and political opportunists of repeatedly gambling with public trust in pursuit of power.
Wike warned that supporting politicians who had spent decades seeking office could divert national resources toward recovering campaign expenses instead of consolidating the country’s economic gains.
He further dismissed the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, saying he would not make any meaningful difference if elected. According to Wike, Tinubu had demonstrated genuine commitment to Nigeria’s recovery and deserved continued support.
Wike said delivering economic recovery required full alignment between the executive and the National Assembly. He urged voters in Rivers State to support Tinubu as well as All Progressives Congress candidates contesting Senate and House of Representatives seats in the area.
According to him, electing APC lawmakers would help ensure legislative cooperation for the president’s economic policy agenda and prevent obstacles to the implementation of reforms.
He also called on party leaders and community mobilisers to begin preparations for a strong turnout on election day, urging them to mobilise supporters across wards and polling units.
“I want total mobilisation on Jan. 16, 2027. Everybody must be mobilised. Make sure we vote and win decisively to protect our collective future,” Wike said.
In his remarks, the Executive Chairman of Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area, Dr Chukwu Shedrack, commended Wike for development projects in the council, including road construction, hospital upgrades and investments in human capital.
Shedrack said the council’s achievements reflected the leadership model associated with the FCT minister and reaffirmed its commitment to the Tinubu administration’s economic recovery drive.
He pledged a complete block vote for the APC across all elective positions in the 2027 general elections, saying the party had been mobilised from ward to unit level.
“We are fully mobilised, ward by ward and unit by unit. Come the 2027 general elections, our people will deliver 100 per cent. From president to national assembly and house of assembly, no vote will drop,” Shedrack assured.
