Jacob Zuma to Testify in Defence of Daughter in July 2021 Unrest Trial

Posted on November 12, 2025

Durban, South Africa – Former President Jacob Zuma is set to testify in the ongoing trial of his daughter, Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, who faces charges of incitement related to the deadly July 2021 unrest in South Africa. The unrest erupted after Zuma was imprisoned for defying a court order, a move that sparked violent protests and looting across the country.

Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, a Member of Parliament for the Umkhonto Wesizwe Party, is accused of using social media platforms to incite violence and acts of terrorism during the riots. She has pleaded not guilty, and her defense team argues that her posts constituted political commentary protected by free speech.

The trial at the Durban High Court has seen contentious arguments, with claims by the defense that certain witnesses against Duduzile have personal motives and that the trial is politically driven.

Jacob Zuma’s forthcoming testimony is expected to be a pivotal moment in the trial as he defends his daughter’s actions amid this politically charged case that continues to draw significant public and media attention.
