Kansas High School ‘Assassin’ Game Ends in Tragedy: Teenager Paralyzed After Father Allegedly Shoots Him

A recent incident in Goddard, Kansas, has highlighted the dangers of a popular high school game called “Senior Assassin.” The game, which involves students targeting each other with water guns and gel-bead guns, has escalated into a tragic event, leaving an 18-year-old teenager paralyzed from the waist down.

The incident occurred on May 11, around 5 p.m., outside a Walmart store. Anakin Zehring, 18, and his friends were playing the game when they fired a gel blaster at a 17-year-old girl, S.C., and her boyfriend, G.B.

The girl contacted her father, Ruben Marcus Contreras, who arrived at the scene and confronted the three teenagers in their Chevrolet Spark. Contreras, in a fit of anger, allegedly pulled out a handgun from his waistband and fired at the vehicle, striking Anakin in the back.

The bullet reportedly hit his liver, kidney, and spinal cord, causing him to lose sensation from the waist down. Despite undergoing four surgeries and receiving intense medical care, Anakin’s recovery journey is just beginning.

The incident has led to Contreras being charged with first-degree attempted murder and released from the Sedgwick County Jail on bond. His attorney could not be reached for comment. The “Senior Assassin” game, which is often played by high school seniors, has been linked to several incidents of panic and concern among police departments.
