A bus carrying high school students veered into a guardrail on a Fukushima Prefecture expressway Wednesday morning, leaving one teenager de@d and 26 others injured, according to local police and emergency responders.

The incident took place on the Banetsu Expressway in Koriyama, near the Bandaiatami exit, at approximately 7:40 a.m. The students on board were from a high school in Niigata.

The fatality involved a male student who was ejected from the vehicle upon impact as the bus struck the guardrail and subsequently collided with another car. Three other passengers sustained serious injuries, though none were reported to be in a life-threatening condition.

Authorities have yet to determine what caused the crash.
