President Donald Trump will serve as honorary chairman of the 2026 Presidents Cup, the PGA Tour announced Saturday.
The biennial team competition is scheduled for Sept. 22-27 at Medinah Country Club outside Chicago.
Trump previously held the honorary chairman role during the 2017 Presidents Cup at Liberty National Golf Club in New Jersey, where he participated in the trophy presentation after the United States defeated the International team 19-11.
“The Presidents Cup has a proud tradition of engaging world leaders from across the globe and across political lines, and President Trump’s involvement continues that legacy,” PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp said in a statement.
“His participation will help elevate the event on the international stage while furthering our mission of bringing people together through the game of golf,” Rolapp added.
The Presidents Cup pits a 12-player U.S. team against 12 players representing countries outside the United States and Europe. Brandt Snedeker will captain the American side, while Australian golfer Geoff Ogilvy will lead the International team.
Trump said he was looking forward to attending the event and meeting players from both sides.
“This will be a particularly exciting event,” Trump said in a statement. “Both teams are loaded with talent. I look forward to being there, and greeting all of these fantastic athletes, on both teams.”
Six other U.S. presidents have served as honorary chairman of the Presidents Cup: Joe Biden, Barack Obama, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush and Gerald Ford.
Trump has attended several major sporting events this summer, including Game 3 of the NBA Finals, the World Cup final and the IndyCar Freedom 250.
