South Africa: Deputy Police Commissioner Sl@ms Irregular Disb@nding of Political K!llings Task Team

Posted on March 4, 2026

Lieutenant-General Tebello Mosikili, South Africa’s deputy national police commissioner, testified Tuesday that the order to disband the Political K! llings Task Team (PKTT) bypassed proper chain of command.

Speaking before the Ad Hoc Committee probing KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi’s allegations, Mosikili criticized the December 31, 2024, directive from Police Minister Senzo Mchunu as poorly communicated without stakeholder consultation. visit IOL

Key Testimony Highlights

  • “It could have been best if we were convened… to understand the repercussions,” Mosikili said, stressing the need to evaluate operational impacts.
  • The sudden move “was not properly communicated” and “could have been done better.”

The inquiry examines the PKTT’s alleged unlawful dissolution, Crime Intelligence hiring freezes, senior SAPS corruption claims, and political meddling—triggered by Mchunu’s directive to National Commissioner Masemola.
