Rubio says ‘significant progress’ made toward Iran peace deal, but not ‘final progress’

Posted on May 24, 2026

Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Sunday that negotiators have made “significant progress” toward a peace agreement with Iran, but stressed the talks are not yet complete. Speaking during a four-day visit to India, Rubio said he hopes for positive developments in the coming hours. He added that the administration has already achieved a key objective: creating “a world that no longer has to be in fear or worry about an Iranian nuclear weapon.”

US military is ‘iron shield’ protecting American bases, lives from Iranian proxies: Hegseth

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said at U.S. Military Academy’s Class of 2026 graduation ceremony in West Point, N.Y., that American forces have had to “deploy at a moment’s notice to the Middle East.”

He hailed America’s armed forces as an “iron shield” that protect the U.S. from harm.
