Nancy Guthrie Abduction’It Ain’t Me!’Says Man Who Was Detained
The man who was detained Tuesday in connection with the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie says he had never even heard of her before he was stopped by police and taken in for questioning. Speaking to reporters outside his home in Rio Rico, Arizona, early Wednesday, the man — who identified himself only as Carlos — said he was pulled over during a traffic stop and later realized it was related to the Guthrie investigation.
Carlos told reporters he “didn’t even know who Nancy was” until officers mentioned her during the stop, insisting he has no involvement in her suspected abduction. He said he was released after being questioned, and law enforcement has not publicly named him or announced any charges.
Authorities had earlier searched a property in Rio Rico under a court order as part of the wider investigation into the disappearance of Guthrie, the 84‑year‑old mother of “Today” co‑host Savannah Guthrie, who was abducted from her Tucson home on February 1.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has said investigators are pursuing all leads, including ransom notes and surveillance footage showing a masked person at Nancy Guthrie’s door on the night she vanished.
