A 32-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly pushing a man in his 60s onto the tracks at a train station in Kofu, Yamanashi Prefecture, on Sunday, causing him to suffer serious injuries.

Police said Isao Nakane of Suginami Ward, Tokyo, is suspected of pushing the man onto the tracks from Platform 3 at JR Kofu Station at around 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, TV Asahi reported.

The victim suffered serious injuries, including spinal cord damage to his neck.

According to police, Nakane was visiting Kofu City for work, and after shoving the man off the platform, he boarded the next train bound for Tokyo and left.

He was later detained and arrested at Otsuki Station in Yamanashi Prefecture.

During questioning, police said Nakane has admitted to the allegation but gave no motive.
