South Africa : Jub Jub arrested after alleged e-hailing driver sh00ting over girlfriend

Media personality Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye has been arrested following an alleged k!dnapping and shooting incident involving an e-hailing driver in Edenvale.

Police said a 45-year-old man was detained on Sunday on charges of k!dnapping, unlawful discharge of a firearm and defeating the ends of justice. Although authorities did not name the suspect, broadcaster eNCA reported the arrested man is Maarohanye, who is expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said the incident began at about 7:30am when an e-hailing driver dropped a female passenger at a residence in Edenvale. The suspect is alleged to have confronted the driver, accusing him of being involved with the suspect’s girlfriend, then forced the driver into his vehicle and prevented him from leaving. During the encounter the suspect reportedly fired a shot in the direction of the driver.

The driver escaped unharmed and reported the matter at a nearby police station. Officers arrested the suspect shortly afterwards and investigations are ongoing. The arrest adds to Maarohanye’s recent legal troubles; he previously faced high-profile court cases that attracted national attention. Police said no further details would be released while the probe continues.

While police did not identify the suspect by name, eNCA reported on Sunday that the man arrested is Maarohanye. According to the broadcaster, he is expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

In a statement released on Sunday, police said a 45-year-old man was arrested on charges of kidnapping, unlawful discharge of a firearm and defeating the ends of justice following an incident that unfolded on Sunday morning.

SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said the incident began at about 7.30 am when an e-hailing driver dropped off a female passenger at a residence in Edenvale.

“It is alleged that at approximately 07:30, the e-hailing driver had transported a female passenger to a residence in Edenvale when he was confronted by the suspect, who accused him of being involved in a romantic relationship with his girlfriend,” Mathe said.

Police allege the suspect then forced the driver into his vehicle and prevented him from leaving.

“The suspect allegedly forced the e-hailing driver into his vehicle and prevented him from leaving. During the incident, the suspect reportedly discharged a firearm in the direction of the driver,” Mathe said.

The driver managed to escape unharmed and drove to a nearby police station, where the matter was reported.

Police said officers acted swiftly and arrested the suspect shortly afterwards. Investigations are continuing.

Maarohanye’s arrest is the latest legal setback for the television presenter and musician, whose previous court battles have frequently made national headlines.

Police have not released any further details and have indicated that the investigation remains ongoing.
