Newly Released Photos Reveal Epstein’s Injuries from 2019 Jail Incident

Recently released photos detail Jeffrey Epstein’s injuries from an apparent suicide attempt that occurred weeks before his death in August 2019.

The images, included in the Justice Department’s “Epstein Files,” document visible marks on Epstein’s neck, arms, hands, legs, and feet. They also show a makeshift ligature—believed to be fashioned from torn clothing knotted together.

According to official reports, the incident took place on July 23, 2019, inside the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York City. Epstein was discovered injured and semi-conscious in his cell around 1:27 a.m. The photos were reportedly taken shortly afterward, at 1:45 a.m.

In the released materials, Epstein appears to be wearing an anti-suicide smock. At the time, he had recently been denied bail and was awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges. Following the incident, authorities placed him on suicide watch. However, just weeks later—on August 10, 2019—Epstein was found dead in his cell.
