Mass Shooting in Philadelphia Leaves 3 People Dead, 10 Injured, Including 3 Minors

A mass shooting occurred early Monday morning, July 7, 2025, in Philadelphia’s Grays Ferry neighborhood, resulting in 3 adults killed and 10 others injured, including 2 to 3 minors (some reports say 2 juveniles, others mention 3 minors). The shooting took place shortly before 1 a.m. on South Etting Street during a gathering of about 40 people, many attending a nearby weekend party.

Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel described the incident as an exchange of gunfire with “numerous rounds” fired—investigators believe over 70 shots were fired. Among the deceased were men aged 19, 23, and 24, while one 19-year-old victim remains in critical condition after being shot twice in the head. The injured mostly suffered gunshot wounds to limbs, but some minors were also struck.

One person armed with a weapon was taken into custody, but it is unclear if this individual fired shots or what exactly triggered the violence. Police had responded to disturbances in the same area over the weekend, including another mass shooting early Saturday that injured eight people near a South Philadelphia nightclub.

Commissioner Bethel condemned the shooting as “coward, want-to-be-thugs stuff” and emphasized the challenges facing the city after a violent Fourth of July weekend marked by multiple shootings and homicides
