Liam Gleason, the men’s lacrosse coach at Siena University, passes away at age 41.

Siena University men’s lacrosse coach Liam Gleason died Wednesday at Albany Medical Center, three days after he suffered a head injury from a fall at his house. He was 41.

It was “profoundly saddened to share the tragic news,” Siena stated on Wednesday night.

Chuck Seifert, president of Siena, stated in a press statement that “a sudden, senseless loss carries a kind of pain that defies understanding.” “It’s hard to imagine anyone more universally loved and admired than Liam. Coach Gleason’s life was a blessing to our community.

After graduating from University at Albany in 2007, Gleason played for Siena for the previous seven seasons, leading the Saints to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference title in May of last year.

Alumni from both schools and the lacrosse community rallied in support of the stricken coach. A GoFundMe page dedicated to helping Gleason’s wife, Jaclyn, and three children raised more than $450,000 by Wednesday afternoon.

Siena will hold a funeral service for Gleason, open to the public, at 11 a.m. Saturday at the UHY Center on campus.

Also in attendance were UAlbany coach Scott Marr, Gleason’s close friend, mentor and former coach, Seifert, and Siena and UAlbany athletic staff members.
