A former footballer Jorge ‘Garda’ Sánchez, 56, has been arrested on suspicion of k!lling his mother after she was found de@d in her home.

Delia Mercedes Romero de Sánchez, 86, was discovered lifeless on Friday afternoon, June 19, with at least one serious head injury. The exact cause of de@th will be determined by a post-mortem examination.

Investigators are currently working on the preliminary assumption that the attack took place at around 3pm that day.

When authorities arrived at the home in Quequén, Argentina, they found one of her sons, Jorge ‘Garda’ Sánchez, in a visibly intoxicated state after reportedly ingesting pills.

The 56-year-old was taken to hospital, where he received treatment and blood samples were taken for toxicology analysis. After being discharged, he was formally charged with aggravated homicide

He has so far refused to give a statement.

Sánchez previously had a career in regional football, playing for Estación Quequén and Villa Mitre de Bahía Blanca during the 1990s.

His brother, Luis ‘Paco’ Sánchez, also a regional footballer, wrote online: “This is an unimaginably difficult moment in life.

“I will remember my mum for who she was – the best mother I could have had. Together with old Paco, they were incredible parents.

“I love you, mum… you will always live in my heart.”

Jorge Sánchez remains in custody as investigators work to establish his mental and physical state at the time of the alleged crime.
