Attorney for Stefon Diggs Denies Assault Allegations, Citing Financial Dispute as Motive

Attorney David Meier has issued a firm response to the allegations against New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs, calling the claims “unsubstantiated, uncorroborated, and never investigated — because they did not occur.”

Meier suggested that the accusations stem from “an employee-employer financial dispute that was not resolved to the employee’s satisfaction,” adding that the timing of the complaint makes the motive “crystal clear.” He emphasized that Diggs “looks forward to establishing the truth in a court of law.”

The NFL star is facing felony charges of strangulation or suffocation and a misdemeanor count of assault and battery, tied to an alleged incident on December 2 in Dedham, Massachusetts — one day after the Patriots’ 33-15 victory over the New York Giants on Monday Night Football. In that game, Diggs recorded three receptions for 26 yards.

While details of the alleged altercation remain undisclosed, the Patriots released a statement Tuesday reaffirming their support for the 32-year-old receiver. “We are aware of the accusations regarding Stefon Diggs,” the team said. “We support Stefon, will continue to gather information, and will cooperate fully with the appropriate authorities and the NFL.”

Diggs is expected to appear in court for his arraignment on January 23 — just two days before the AFC Championship Game, should New England advance that far.

Off the field, Diggs has remained in the public eye due to his relationship with rapper Cardi B. The couple welcomed a child in November.

The NFL confirmed it is aware of the allegations and has been in communication with the Patriots as the legal process unfolds
