Arsenal clinch first Premier League title since 2004 as Man City draw at Bournemouth

Posted on May 19, 2026

Arsenal secured the Premier League title for the first time since Arsène Wenger’s Invincibles season in 2004 after Manchester City drew 1-1 at Bournemouth.

The squad and staff, led by manager Mikel Arteta, watched the match together at the club’s Hertfordshire training ground. Midfielder Declan Rice posted a photo within minutes of full-time with Kai Havertz, Eberechi Eze, Bukayo Saka, Myles Lewis-Skelly and William Saliba, captioning it: “I told you all .. it’s done,” a nod to his earlier “It’s not done” rallying cry after Arsenal’s defeat to City last month. Video footage showed jubilant celebrations, with staff and players chanting “championes” and Eze jumping on a table. The team reportedly continued celebrations offsite.

The club praised Arteta, saying he had “cemented his place in our history as one of our greatest managers of all time.” At 44, Arteta is the second-youngest manager to win the Premier League, behind José Mourinho (Chelsea, 2005). Arsenal also posted a celebratory video introduced by Wenger, who toasted the victory and urged the squad to savour the moment.

Arteta’s achievement is striking for a manager in his first senior job. He took charge in December 2019 and has transformed Arsenal into consistent title contenders, finishing as runners-up in the previous three seasons. This season Arsenal led for much of the campaign before City narrowed a nine-point gap after defeating Arsenal at the Etihad. The title race effectively came down to a five-match battle; City faltered with a draw at Everton while Arsenal went on a four-game winning run without conceding, capped by Monday’s 1-0 win over Burnley.

Fans celebrated across north London, packing pubs near the Emirates and pouring into the streets when the title was confirmed. Thousands marched toward the stadium within minutes of the final whistle, and former striker Ian Wright was among those enjoying the moment.

Arsenal will receive the Premier League trophy at Selhurst Park on Sunday before their final match of the season against Crystal Palace. With Pep Guardiola set to depart City after 10 years, Arteta will become the longest-serving manager among England’s top four divisions and can add to his manager’s legacy with a Champions League final against Paris Saint‑Germain on 30 May. Only five English clubs have completed the league-and-European Cup double; Manchester City were the most recent in 2023.
