62-year-old man arrested for trying to strangle convenience store employee

Police in Akaigawa, Hokkaido, have arrested a 62-year-old man from Sapporo on suspicion of assaulting a female employee at a convenience store by trying to strangle her.

The incident occurred at around 8 p.m. on Sunday, TBS reported. Another employee called police and said a “drunk man had come into the store and said he wouldn’t go home.”

When police arrived, the man resisted arrest. Police said he has denied the allegation, saying he doesn’t remember the incident.

The convenience store employee was not injured, police said.

According to the police, the man had been drinking heavily at a festival held nearby before the crime
