54-year-old woman detained after 91-year-old father’s body was discovered at home

A 54-year-old jobless woman was detained by police in Takahama City, Aichi Prefecture, on suspicion of failing to report her father’s death and leaving his body at their house.

According to Kyodo News, police said Rina Yamamoto told them she didn’t know what to do after her father passed away approximately a month ago.

A relative called police on Saturday morning to report that Yamamoto and her father had not been in contact for a while. When police arrived at the residence, they discovered the father lying face up in the first-floor living room. No injuries were apparent. At the time, the suspect was at home.

According to the police, an autopsy will be performed to ascertain the cause of death.
