A man who killed a landlord in Kanagawa Prefecture in 2022 is sentenced to 18 years in prison.
A 53-year-old man was given an 18-year prison sentence by the Yokohama District Court for the 2022 murder of a 55-year-old man at the victim’s home in Chigasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture.
According to Kyodo News, Yasuhiro Takai was found guilty by the court on Tuesday of killing Hiroyuki Shikata on December 20, 2022, by stabbing him in the head and chest.
On December 22, 2022, Takai turned himself in at a police station in Mobara, Chiba Prefecture, and confessed to Shikata’s murder. “Have you heard about the Kanagawa murder?” he asked them, according to the police. I completed it.
Shikata’s wife, who was in the living room when the murder occurred, reported to the police that her husband had been stabbed by an unknown man after he had opened the front door.
Police said Takai and Shikata knew each other.
The court heard that Takai had been renting an apartment owned by Shikata and was behind in the rent. Prosecutors claimed that Takai had become angry after being told by Shikata to vacate the apartment.
