Japan: A second-grade girl dies after being hit by a community bus in Kawachi Town, Ibaraki

A community bus struck a second-grade elementary school girl on the 20th, killing her as she crossed a prefectural road in Kawachi Town, Ibaraki Prefecture.
The motorist, 72, has been taken into custody by police, who are also looking into the specifics of the collision.

Haru Naito, 7, a local elementary school kid in second grade, was struck by a community bus at around 7:15 p.m. on the 20th while crossing a prefectural road in Jusangendo, Kawachi Town, Ibaraki Prefecture.
Naito was rushed to the hospital after her father, who lived nearby, phoned the fire department. However, she died there after suffering serious injuries to her abdomen and other body parts.

Police arrested the driver of the bus, Takuo Taguchi (72), from Ryugasaki City, Ibaraki Prefecture, on the spot on suspicion of negligent driving resulting in injury.

During questioning, he admitted to the charge, saying, “There is no doubt that I hit the child,” and the charge has been changed to negligent driving resulting in death, and the detailed cause of the accident is currently being investigated.
According to the police, there were no passengers on the community bus at the time of the accident.
The accident occurred on a one-lane prefectural road with good visibility near the Tone River.
