Trump Fires DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, Taps Senator Markwayne Mullin as Replacement
President Trump delivered his signature line—”You’re fired!”—to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, announcing her ouster on Truth Social. He’s replacing her with Oklahoma GOP Senator Markwayne Mullin, effective March 31.

Mullin brings a bold edge to the role: He’s the senator who once challenged Teamsters President Sean O’Brien to a fistfight during congressional testimony a couple of years back.

Trump had been polling aides and congressional Republicans for Noem replacements, per the Wall Street Journal. The tipping point appears to be her heated Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Tuesday, where senators from both parties grilled her—including North Carolina GOP Sen. Thom Tillis, who blasted her leadership by likening ICE agent killings of U.S. citizens in Minnesota to the dog Noem famously shot.

Noem isn’t out of the game: Trump is shifting her to lead “The Shield of the Americas,” a new Western Hemisphere security initiative, as a special envoy.
