Tiger Woods Arrested for DUI After Rollover Crash in Florida
Tiger Woods walked away unhurt from a rollover car crash in Jupiter Island, Florida, on March 27, but his next destination was Martin County jail.
The 50-year-old golf legend faces charges of DUI, property damage, and refusal to submit to a lawful test, Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek confirmed. Woods declined a urinalysis following the incident, with all charges classified as misdemeanors.
Florida law mandates at least eight hours in jail for DUI arrests. Woods was booked at 3 p.m. on March 27 and could post bond for release around 11 p.m., provided he pays it, the sheriff added.
Potential Penalties if Convicted
A first-time DUI conviction in Florida carries up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine, per the Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. Refusal to take a required test adds up to 60 days behind bars and a $500 fine. Property damage penalties depend on the damage amount, which wasn’t available as of March 27.
Woods remained in custody about three hours after the crash and two hours post-arrest, as the sheriff spoke to reporters.
