American tennis star Sloane Stephens and her husband, former U.S. soccer player Jozy Altidore, are splitting after four years of marriage. The 2017 U.S. Open champion confirmed the news in an Instagram Story shared with her followers on Saturday.

“Jozy and I have decided to end our marriage,” Stephens wrote. “With peace, I am navigating this transition with mutual respect and kindly ask for privacy during this time.”

Stephens and Altidore’s relationship dates back to their childhood—having first met in middle school before reconnecting as adults. The two got engaged in April 2019 and tied the knot three years later in an oceanfront ceremony at the St. Regis Bal Harbour Resort in Miami Beach on January 1, 2022, according to People Magazine.

Neither Stephens nor Altidore has shared further details about the separation, but the athlete emphasized her wish for privacy as they move forward separately.
