Indiana Homeowner Charged in Fatal Shooting of House Cleaner Who Showed Up at Wrong Address
Whitestown, IN — Curt Andersen, a homeowner in this Indianapolis suburb, has been charged with voluntary manslaughter following a fatal shooting that took the life of Maria Florinda Rios Perez, a 32-year-old house cleaner and mother of four. The tragic incident occurred early on November 5, 2025, when Perez mistakenly arrived at Andersen’s residence as part of a cleaning crew.
According to police reports, Perez and her husband, Mauricio Velazquez, went to the wrong address while on their cleaning assignment. Before 7 a.m., Andersen fired a gunshot from inside his home through the front door onto the porch, striking Perez in the head. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Police found no evidence that Perez or Velazquez entered the house.
This case highlights critical questions around self-defense and Indiana’s stand-your-ground law, as prosecutors allege the shooting was unjustified. Andersen faces one count of voluntary manslaughter and could face a prison sentence ranging from 10 to 30 years if convicted.
Authorities emphasize the ongoing thorough and impartial investigation to fully understand the circumstances. The Whitestown police department has urged the public to refrain from spreading misinformation as the case develops.
The community mourns the loss of a hardworking mother whose life was tragically cut short by this fatal error.
