Eric Dane, Beloved ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ and ‘Euphoria’ Actor, Dies at 53

Eric Dane, the American actor admired for his roles in Grey’s Anatomy and Euphoria, has died at 53, less than a year after revealing his diagnosis with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

Dane’s family confirmed the news in a statement on Thursday, saying, “With heavy hearts, we share that Eric Dane passed on Thursday afternoon following a courageous battle with ALS.”

Born in California, Dane became a household name after playing the charismatic Dr. Mark Sloan affectionately known to fans as “McSteamy” on the long-running medical drama Grey’s Anatomy. His portrayal of Cal Jacobs, a complex and troubled father in HBO’s Euphoria, further cemented his reputation as a versatile and daring performer.

After revealing his ALS diagnosis last year, Dane devoted much of his time to raising awareness about the neurodegenerative disease, also known as motor neurone disease (MND). Admirers and colleagues from across the entertainment industry have begun paying tribute, celebrating both his talent and the courage he showed during his illness
