Demonstrators in Denmark and Greenland protest against Trump’s annexation threat
Protesters in Denmark and Greenland have held coordinated rallies denouncing US President Donald Trump’s threats to annex Greenland, an autonomous Arctic territory within the Kingdom of Denmark.
Demonstrators gathered in cities including Copenhagen, Aarhus, Aalborg, Odense and Nuuk, marching with Danish and Greenlandic flags and chanting slogans such as “Hands off Greenland” and “Greenland is not for sale.”
Organizers from Greenlandic associations and NGOs said the aim was to demand respect for Greenland’s right to self-determination, international law and human rights amid what they describe as escalating US pressure over the island’s strategic location and mineral resources.
The protests coincided with a visit by a bipartisan US congressional delegation to Copenhagen, highlighting divisions between Trump’s annexation rhetoric and other American politicians who insist there is no security threat that justifies such moves.
