Celine Dion Announces Epic Comeback: Paris Shows in September After Stiff Person Syndrome Battle
On her 58th birthday, megastar Celine Dion revealed she’s returning to the stage after a health hiatus, dubbing it “the best gift” in a heartfelt social media video.
The Canadian icon shared that her Stiff Person Syndrome—an incurable autoimmune disorder causing muscle stiffness—has improved. “I’m doing great, managing my health, feeling good,” she said. “This year, I’m getting the chance to see you, to perform for you once again.” Starting September 12, she’ll deliver 10 shows over five weeks at Paris La Defense Arena.
Dion first went public with the diagnosis in December 2022, forcing her to cancel tours indefinitely. Treatments ease symptoms in the torso, arms, and legs. Her 2024 documentary I Am: Celine Dion exposed the pain’s toll, including a seizure, but she vowed resilience: “I’m not dead,” she told AFP at its premiere.
She proved it by belting out a showstopper from the Eiffel Tower at the rain-soaked Paris 2024 Olympics opening ceremony.
From Eurovision to Global Icon
Dion’s rise began in 1988 at age 20, winning Eurovision for Switzerland with “Ne partez pas sans moi” (Don’t Leave Without Me). She followed up hosting duties with her English pivot via “Where Does My Heart Beat Now,” paving the way for 260+ million albums sold and five Grammys—including two for Titanic‘s “My Heart Will Go On.”
“Thank you for carrying me through my toughest times,” she told fans Monday. “I’m singing again, even doing a little dancing.”
