52-Year-Old Man Killed After Jeep Crashes Into Red River at Interstate 24

Clarksville, TN – A 52-year-old man tragically lost his life after a Jeep he was driving crashed into the Red River near Interstate 24 early Thursday morning. The accident occurred around 5 a.m. near mile marker 9 in Clarksville.

According to Tennessee Highway Patrol, the Jeep was struck by a Lincoln Townecar while both vehicles were traveling westbound. The collision caused the Jeep to veer off the road, down an embankment, and into the river. The victim was identified as Michael Atzert.

Emergency responders from Clarksville Fire Rescue and the Tennessee Highway Patrol arrived promptly at the scene. Despite rescue efforts, Atzert was pronounced dead. Authorities have indicated that charges are pending against the driver of the Lincoln Townecar involved in the crash.

The westbound lanes of Interstate 24 were closed for several hours for investigation and recovery.

This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of highway travel and the importance of road safety.
