Henry Cavill Injury Delays ‘Highlander’ Remake Production

Henry Cavill has sustained an injury during pre-production training for the highly anticipated Amazon MGM Studios remake of the cult classic film “Highlander,” forcing a delay in the movie’s production schedule. Originally set to begin filming this month, production is now expected to commence in early 2026.

The “Highlander” reboot, directed by Chad Stahelski of the “John Wick” franchise, stars Cavill as the immortal warrior Connor MacLeod. The cast also includes Russell Crowe, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Marisa Abela, Djimon Hounsou, and Max Zhang. The script is written by Michael Finch.

The original 1986 film, featuring Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery, follows the story of immortal warriors battling through centuries. Though the original was not a box office hit, it became a cult favorite, spawning sequels, a TV series, and spin-offs.

Details on the nature and severity of Cavill’s injury have not been disclosed. Cavill had previously teased the intense sword fighting and depth of character work planned for the film. Fans will have to wait longer to see the remake, now targeted for filming next year.

Cavill is also involved in other upcoming projects, including the sequels “Enola Holmes 3” and “Voltron,” and the action film “In the Grey.”
