Olympic legend Greg Louganis of the United States sells his medals and house to begin a new life in Panama.

A U.S. Olympic legend and one of the best divers in history, Greg Louganis recently sold his California home and three of his Olympic medals to raise money for his move to Panama. Louganis, 65, posted on Facebook that he had raised over $430,000 by auctioning off two gold medals from the 1984 and 1988 Olympics as well as one silver medal from the 1976 Montreal Games. He revealed that in order to start a new chapter in his life, he needed the money.

Louganis reflected deeply on this bold step, stating, “I told the truth; I needed the money. While many have built businesses and profited from them, my medals were my assets, and I am grateful for them.” He also expressed satisfaction with the new owners of his home, grateful for the transition as he embarks on a new journey.

The former Olympic champion revealed that the move is not only physical but deeply personal, aiming to rediscover himself without the distractions of his previous life. Inspired by friends who endured California wildfires, Louganis sold personal possessions to embrace this new beginning with an open heart and mind.

A five-time Olympic medalist, Louganis made history by winning gold in both the 3-meter springboard and 10-meter platform events at two consecutive Olympics (1984 and 1988), along with a silver medal earned at 16 years old in 1976. His transition to life in Panama marks a new chapter of self-discovery and growth beyond his illustrious athletic career.

Louganis hopes to live fully, embracing all aspects of the human experience as he embarks on this exciting path forward.
