The TikTok app is no longer available in stores in the United States as a result of a federal law.
As of late Saturday, January 18, 2025, TikTok has stopped operating for users in the United States after a federal law was passed that essentially outlaws the app. This action follows the U.S.
Supreme Court’s upholding of laws mandating that ByteDance, the Chinese parent company of TikTok, sell off its stake or risk being banned for national security reasons. TikTok proactively shut down its services just hours before the law’s January 19 implementation date.
The following notice appeared to users trying to access TikTok: “A law banning TikTok has been enacted in the U.S. You are sadly unable to use TikTok at this time.
Additionally, the app is no longer available for download on the Google and Apple app stores36. As President-elect Donald Trump announced he might give the app a 90-day reprieve once he takes office in January, TikTok expressed hope for a resolution.
