The suspect in the murder of the CEO of UnitedHealthcare is fighting extradition to New York.

As fresh information regarding the potential motive for the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson emerged, the suspect in the case will contest extradition to New York.

At a hearing Tuesday at the Blair County Courthouse in Pennsylvania, Luigi Mangione, 26, said he would challenge extradition through lawyer Thomas Dickey. The judge said that Mangione could challenge his bail denial within 14 days.

Dickey made it apparent that Mangione would object to the Manhattan District Attorney’s office’s confirmation to USA TODAY that it would request a governor’s warrant for Mangione’s extradition.

Handcuffed and wearing an orange jumpsuit, Mangione arrived at the courthouse in a police vehicle and yelled out a statement that appeared to include the phrase “completely out of touch and an insult to the intelligence of the American people” as sheriff’s deputies led him away.

An arrest warrant filed Tuesday in New York City said Mangione faces charges of second-degree murder, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second-degree, criminal possession of a forged instrument, and criminal possession of a weapon in the third-degree.

An Ivy League graduate from a wealthy family was taken into custody Monday in Altoona, Pennsylvania, after a McDonald’s patron noticed him and reported him to the establishment. According to the warrant, when police searched Mangione, they discovered “written admissions about the crime,” a “semi-automatic pistol” with a silencer, and a phony New Jersey driver’s license that had been created using a 3D printer.
