Nathan Mathers, Eminem’s brother, claims to be experiencing “mixed emotions and hatred.” after mother dead
The day after their mother passed away, Nathan “Nate” Mathers, Eminem’s half-brother, posted a brief five-word message on Instagram.
On Tuesday, Dec. 3, Nathan, 38, shared a post on his Instagram Stories following the death of his mom Debbie Nelson on Dec. 2 that simply read, “Hatred and conflicting emotions today.”
Nelson passed away in St. Joseph, Missouri, on Monday, December 2, at the age of 69, from complications associated with lung cancer, according to a spokesperson for 52-year-old Eminem who spoke to PEOPLE. The news of Nelson’s passing was first reported by TMZ.
In September, several media outlets first reported on Nelson’s illness.
When Eminem (real name Marshall Mathers III) was thirteen years old, Nelson and her boyfriend Fred Samra welcomed their youngest son, music producer Nathan.
She had previously been married to Marshall Mathers Jr., Eminem’s father, when Nelson was only sixteen years old. In 1972, two years later, the rapper was born. Later, when Eminem was a baby, his father left him and his mother. He didn’t see his father until he passed away in 2019 at the age of 67.
After his brother Nathan spent almost ten years in foster care, Eminem was deemed his legal guardian when Nathan was sixteen.
“I cried just going to see him at the foster home,” Eminem recalled in a 2004 interview with Rolling Stone. I was the only one permitted to see him on the day he was taken away. They had arrived and removed him from school. He had no idea what the f— was happening. His life was going through the same thing that had happened to mine.
