Manchester United Sack Erik Ten Hag After Horror Start to Season

After a dismal start to the 2024 season, Erik ten Hag was formally fired as manager of Manchester United. The decision was made in response to the team’s 1-2 loss to West Ham United, which placed them in 14th position in the Premier League with only three wins from nine games and no victories in their Europa League games this season.

Ten Hag’s dismissal is largely attributed to the team’s poor performance this season. The loss against West Ham was particularly damaging, as it involved a controversial late penalty decision that many felt was unjust. This incident not only intensified scrutiny on Ten Hag but also marked a culmination of mounting pressure due to the team’s lackluster results

Ruud van Nistelrooy, a former striker for Manchester United, has been named temporary manager after Ten Hag’s resignation. While the club looks for a long-term successor, he will serve as team captain. It is anticipated that Van Nistelrooy’s background and knowledge with the team will offer some stability during this time of change.
