Kevin Kline claims that his successful 35-year marriage to Phoebe Cates is a result of not living in Hollywood.
Kevin Kline and Phoebe Cates have been married for more than 35 years, and the actor attributes their marriage’s success to their remote location from Hollywood.
In an article published Thursday, October 24, by Business Insider, the 77-year-old Kline talked about how he and Cates, who appeared in Gremlins and Fast Times at Ridgemont High, manage to maintain their marriage after so many years and a lot of time spent in the entertainment business.
Kline told the publication, “If your marriage lasts more than six months, you’re already in the Guinness Book of World Records, if you’re a Hollywood marriage,” while walking the red carpet at the September Toronto International Film Festival premiere of AppleTV+’s Disclaimer.
The Oscar winner claims that he and Cates don’t have a “Hollywood marriage” because they have spent the most of their time together living on Manhattan’s Central Park. Since neither he nor the former actress consider themselves celebrities in the conventional sense of the word, Kline also quipped that he meant it symbolically.
You won’t see Botox because of this. “This is what’s left of my lips,” Kline jokingly said.
Furthermore, one of the primary reasons they have maintained such a solid friendship throughout the years is Cates’ support for him.
“Unlike me, she has her head on her shoulders. Usually, I also rest my head on her shoulders. “She’s a wonderful wife, mother, and person, and she keeps me honest,” he remarked before making a joke, “Except for in interviews.”
