Ryan Routh faces charges related to an alleged attempt to kill Trump.
A federal grand jury in Miami has charged Ryan Wesley Routh for attempts to kill former President Donald Trump. The Ryan charges stem from an incident that happened on September 15 at Trump’s golf property in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Numerous offences, including assaulting a federal officer and other firearm-related offences, are included in the indictment.
At Trump International Golf Club, Routh was allegedly seen by a Secret Service member shooting a weapon through the woods as Trump was playing golf.
The Secret Service man fired rounds at Routh, who ran away but was soon captured, even though no guns were fired at Trump.
Investigators then learnt that Routh had been watching Trump’s activities before the event and had earlier prepared a handwritten note expressing his intentions to kill Trump.
Attorney General Merrick Garland declared that the Justice Department will employ every tool at its disposal to hold Routh responsible, denouncing the attempt as a grave danger to democracy. Garland also hinted that as the investigation goes on, more charges may be brought.
Following the indictment, Trump criticized the federal government’s handling of the case, suggesting that state authorities should take over due to potential conflicts of interest stemming from ongoing federal investigations involving him.
This situation is ongoing, and updates are expected as the legal proceedings unfold.
