Rapper Nelly was arrested in a casino on suspicion of possessing drugs and not having insurance.
Rapper Nelly was taken into custody early on Wednesday in Maryland Heights, Variety was informed by a Missouri State Highway Patrol representative.
Nelly, whose true name is Cornell I. Haynes Jr., was stopped by the Missouri Gaming Commission for identification verification on Wednesday about 4:45 a.m. as he was leaving the Hollywood Casino in Maryland Heights, close to St. Louis. He was later taken into custody on account of an outstanding warrant for his failure to get auto insurance.
Officers from the Missouri State Highway department charged the artist with narcotics possession after finding ecstasy tablets in Nelly’s vehicle during a search. After that, Nelly was taken to the Maryland Heights Police Department before being let go.
Nelly just finished her nine-concert tour supporting Janet Jackson, which took her across the United States. The summer tour was a continuation of Michael Jackson’s 2023 “Together Again” tour, which was his best-selling tour to date. Nelly’s last performance took place at the Footprint Center in Phoenix on July 30.
His solo music career has taken a slight hiatus; his most recent full-length original solo album, “Heartland,” from 2021, had collaborations with country music bands including Florida Georgia Line. Nelly most recently signed with WME for international representation after going on tours with T.I., Ja Rule, and Ashanti, as well as a brief journey with Nashville artist Chase McDaniel, and after making several performances at music festivals.
