Tragic Plane Crash Claims Lives of Three Members of Gospel Quartet The Nelons

The Nelons, a quartet inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame, lost three members in an aircraft crash in Wyoming on Friday. Co-founder Kelly Nelon Clark, her husband Jason Clark, and their daughter Amber Nelon Kistler were among the victims. Autumn Nelon Streetman, the group’s fourth member who was not on the aircraft, verified their deaths.

The party was headed to attend the Gaither Homecoming Cruise to Alaska when the disaster happened in Campbell County, north of Gillette, at approximately one o’clock in the afternoon local time.

Four other people perished with the Nelons: Melodi Hodges, a family acquaintance, pilot Larry Haynie and his wife Melissa Haynie, and Amber’s husband Nathan Kistler. It was also mentioned that Larry Haynie was the Georgia Board of Corrections chairman.

The aircraft in question was a Pilatus PC-12/47E turboprop, single-engine. The National Transportation Safety Board has begun an investigation; a preliminary report is anticipated in 30 days, and it may take up to two years to finish the full report.

The Nelons were highly respected in the gospel music industry, having won several GMA Dov Awards and being honored into the Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame in 2016.
