The Ooni of Ife, has been linked to a number of well-known Nigerian real estate and financial fraud cases.
Real Estate Fraud
According to reports, Ogunwusi’s companies, including Gran Imperio Group, were involved in an “elaborate scam” that defrauded numerous investors of millions of naira. Investors claimed that after Ogunwusi became the Ooni of Ife, he distanced himself from the company and sold it to the management, but remained the true owner.
The company allegedly continued to sell land and collect payments from unsuspecting buyers, even as it was unable to deliver on the promised projects. One investor, Oluwaloni, stated that Ogunwusi himself admitted to selling the company, but that “he was still the owner” and was trying to remove his name from the board. The Ooni even wrote to investors urging them to continue making payments to the “distressed” project.

When some investors tried to recover their money through the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the case file was mysteriously transferred from Lagos to Abuja, making it difficult for them to pursue the matter. The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission also failed to provide any meaningful assistance to the defrauded investors.

Land Grabbing Allegations
Ogunwusi has also been accused of land grabbing, with reports alleging that his companies have forcefully taken over land belonging to others. The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) accused the Ooni of interfering in a land dispute involving one of their members, urging him to “fear God” and stay out of the matter.
Agro-Business Fraud
In another case, an investor claimed that the CEO of Titan Farms, which the Ooni had invested in, defrauded him of his capital in an “agro-business” scheme. The investor appealed to the Ooni to help recover his money, but it is unclear if any action was taken.Overall, the Ooni of Ife appears to have been involved in or associated with multiple fraudulent real estate, investment, and land grabbing schemes, with little accountability or consequences for the alleged crimes
