Netflix gives the green light to the Peaky Blinders movie
Peaky Blinders to move from small to big screen
Cillian Murphy , 48, will return to the screens as gangster Thomas Shelby . Production on the feature film is due to begin later this year.
After months of online speculation, Netflix has announced that it has officially greenlit the film, which will be directed by Tom Harper and written by series creator Steven Knight
“It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t done with me,” Cillian Murphy told Deadline. “It’s very rewarding to be working with Steven Knight and Tom Harper again on the film version of Peaky Blinders. It’s a film for the fans.”
Director Tom Harper finds the news “incredibly exciting”. “When I first made Peaky Blinders over a decade ago, we didn’t know what the show would become, but we knew there was something explosive in the chemistry of the cast and the writing,” he said. “Peaky has always been a family story – so it’s incredibly exciting to be reuniting with Steve and Cillian to bring the film to viewers around the world on Netflix.”
Steven Knight added that fans can expect the film to be as dramatic as the original gangster series it was based on.
“I’m really excited that this film is about to come to fruition. It’s going to be an explosive chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. No holds barred. Peaky Blinders at war,” he teased.
