Kano Government Orders Demolition of Emir’s Palace, Sparking Tensions
The Kano State Government has ordered the immediate demolition of the palace of the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado-Bayero. The state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Haruna Dederi, stated that the demolition will allow for the renovation of the palace.
Dederi also disclosed that the Commissioner of Police has been asked to remove Bayero from the Nasarawa GRA mini palace where he resides, as the property belongs to the state government and is set for renovation. This development comes after the Federal High Court in Kano ruled on its substantive suit, validating the Kano Emirate Council Repeal Law 2024 but nullifying all actions taken by Governor Abba Yusuf after the passage of the law, including the reinstatement of the 14th Emir, Muhammad Sanusi II.
The Kano government maintains that the court’s ruling has unequivocally reaffirmed the validity of the law passed by the state legislature and assented to by the governor. It argues that all actions taken before the interim court order, such as the abolition of the five emirates and the deposition of their emirs, are validated by the ruling

The state government has therefore directed the police to remove the deposed Emir Aminu Ado-Bayero from the government property he is “trespassing” on, in order to commence the planned renovation of the Nasarawa Palace
