Elon Musk explains black eye as a punch from his son while meeting President Trump in the Oval Office

Elon Musk appeared at a White House farewell press conference with President Donald Trump sporting a noticeable black eye, which he explained was the result of playful roughhousing with his 5-year-old son, X Æ A-12 (nicknamed “Little X”). Musk said he told his son to “go ahead and punch me in the face,” and the boy did, causing the bruise. Musk noted he didn’t feel much pain at the time, but the bruise developed later.

The event marked Musk’s formal departure from his role in the Trump administration, where he headed the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Trump praised Musk’s service, presented him with a golden key as a token of appreciation, and indicated Musk would continue to be involved occasionally, saying he was “not really leaving”.

Musk wore a “DOGE” hat and a “The Dogefather” T-shirt during the press conference, emphasizing that the department’s work was ongoing despite his exit. The department reportedly saved over $175 billion during his tenure, mainly through asset sales, contract cancellations, and fraud crackdowns. Musk’s time in government was limited to 130 days by law, and he described his departure as the beginning rather than the end of the initiative
