South Africa :Malema blasts leaders for lacking courage on land reform. Is it time for bold action
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have called for a complete withdrawal and reset of South Africa’s 2025 Budget, labeling the process that led to its adoption as “misguided, ill-conceived, and reckless” and claiming it failed to address the country’s severe economic crisis, unemployment, and poor growth.
The EFF welcomed the decision by Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana and the National Treasury to withdraw the 2025 Budget, which initially included a controversial VAT hike, but criticized the government for not complying with legal and constitutional requirements in the budget proces
The EFF argues that the budget process was unprocedural and that the adopted Fiscal Framework and Revenue Proposals are therefore illegal and unconstitutional. They have demanded that Parliament formally withdraw these frameworks and start the budget process afresh, warning that any further steps without a full reset would remain unlawful.
The party has also called for the resignation of the Finance Minister and the Director-General of the National Treasury, stating that their actions threaten the country’s economic stability and the livelihoods of South Africans
